Why Bars Love Chalk Markers (And Why You Should Stock Up for St. Patrick's Day)
It's January and the orders are rolling in like they always do this time of year, and I've been noticing something interesting. We're getting a ton of orders from bars and pubs all over the country, which makes sense because everyone's stocking up on supplies after the holidays, but it also got me thinking about Saint Patrick's Day. Because if there's one holiday that bars and brew pubs go absolutely wild for, it's Saint Patty's Day. And if there's one product that makes decorating for Saint Patrick's Day about a thousand times easier, it's our Chalk Ink® markers.
Let me back up and explain why bars love our markers so much in the first place, and then I'll tell you why you need to stock up now if you're planning any kind of Saint Patrick's Day event at your pub or restaurant or honestly anywhere that serves beer and wants to look festive.
Why Brew Pubs Keep Ordering Our Markers
Here's what I've learned from years of watching orders come in from bars and restaurants. Brew pubs especially love our markers because they're constantly rotating their tap lists. They do their own brews, they've got all these fun creative names for their beers, and they need a way to display that information on chalkboards that looks good and is easy to update. You can't be printing new menus every time you swap out a keg. You need something flexible and reusable and honestly kind of fun to work with.
That's where Chalk Ink® comes in. Our markers work beautifully on chalkboards, and they also work on chalkboard paint, which is huge for bars because a lot of them paint entire walls with chalkboard paint and then use those walls for rotating menus or seasonal artwork or whatever makes sense for their space. I love seeing photos from customers who've turned a whole wall into this giant chalkboard canvas and then use our markers to create these amazing beer lists or elaborate drawings or just fun messages that change with the seasons.
The other thing that makes our markers perfect for bars is they're bold and visible. You're not dealing with dusty traditional chalk that smudges everywhere and barely shows up under bar lighting. Our markers are bright and opaque and they really pop, which matters when you're trying to get someone's attention in a crowded pub. If you've got a special on a particular beer or you're promoting a Saint Patrick's Day event, you want people to actually see it.
Saint Patrick's Day Is Coming and You Need Green

So anyway, we're in January now and Saint Patrick's Day is only a couple months away, which means if you run a bar or pub or restaurant and you're planning to do anything for the holiday, now is the time to stock up. And when I say stock up, I mean get yourself a whole arsenal of green markers because Saint Patrick's Day is all about the green.
We've got so many greens and I'm kind of obsessed with all of them for different reasons. There's Astroturf Green, which is this really bright, almost neon green that just screams celebration. There's Eco Green, which is a little more natural and earthy, and we've got a metallic green called Beetle Buck Green if you want something that catches the light and feels a little fancy.
The point is, you've got options. And if you're decorating a bar for Saint Patrick's Day, you're probably going to want more than one shade of green because variety makes everything look more intentional and thought out. You can use the brighter greens for big bold letters and the deeper greens for shading or details or accent work.
Don't Forget the Gold
Here's the other thing about Saint Patrick's Day that I think people sometimes overlook. It's not just green. It's green and gold. Shamrocks and rainbows and pots of gold and all that lucky imagery. And we have this color called Metallic Gold Dancer, which is exactly what it sounds like. It's a beautiful metallic gold that looks absolutely perfect next to any of our greens.
If you're creating a Saint Patrick's Day display in your bar, you could do a giant rainbow that ends in a pot of gold and a beer. Or you could write your specials in green and outline them in gold. Or you could draw shamrocks in green and add gold accents. The possibilities are kind of endless, and that's what I love about this holiday from a design perspective. There's so much room to be creative and festive and over the top in the best possible way.
Chalkboard Paint Makes Everything Better
I mentioned this earlier but I want to come back to it because it's such a big part of why bars love working with our products. Chalkboard paint is incredible for bars and restaurants because it turns any wall or surface into a writable, erasable canvas. You can paint a whole wall behind the bar with chalkboard paint and then use it for your tap list or daily specials or seasonal promotions. And our Chalk Ink® markers work beautifully on chalkboard paint, which means you get that smooth, bold, professional look without dealing with dusty chalk residue.
If you're a bar owner and you haven't considered painting a wall or two with chalkboard paint, this is your sign to do it. It's one of those investments that pays off constantly because it gives you so much flexibility. You can change your messaging whenever you want. You can get creative with artwork for different holidays. You can involve your staff in the design process and let them take ownership of how the space looks. It's functional and fun and it makes your bar feel more personal and less corporate.
Stock Up Now Before the Rush
Here's the thing about Saint Patrick's Day. It sneaks up on you. One minute it's January and you're thinking you've got plenty of time to prepare, and the next minute it's early March and you're scrambling to get supplies and everything's sold out or backordered. I've seen this happen enough times to know that the bars and pubs who plan ahead are the ones who actually have what they need when the holiday rolls around.
So if you're reading this and you run a bar or brew pub or restaurant and you want to do Saint Patrick's Day right this year, go ahead and order your markers now. Get a variety of greens. Get the gold. Get some extra markers in case you want to involve multiple staff members in decorating or in case you have a last minute brilliant idea that requires more supplies.
We've got everything available on our website at chalkink.com and on Amazon, and honestly, bars and pubs are some of our favorite customers because they use our markers in such creative ways. Every time I see a photo of a beautifully decorated chalkboard wall at a brew pub, it makes me so happy because that's exactly what these markers are designed for. They're meant to be used and enjoyed and changed up whenever you feel like it.
Get Your Dance On
I'm going to leave you with this. Our gold marker is called Solid Gold Dancer for a reason. It's fun. It's festive. It makes everything look a little more celebratory. And if there's any holiday that deserves a celebratory vibe, it's Saint Patrick's Day.
So stock up. Get your greens and your gold. Paint a wall if you haven't already. Create a giant rainbow with a pot of gold at the end and a beer in the middle because why not. Make your bar the place everyone wants to be on March 17th. And use Chalk Ink® markers to do it because they're going to make the whole process easier and the result is going to look better than anything you could do with traditional chalk.
Luck of the Irish to all you bars and brew pubs out there. May your taps be full and your chalkboards be beautiful.
Go get those markers.
